AT HOME WITH... KATE DAVIS
For a very long time we had been looking for an apartment and I had thought I would never find one. But when I passed through the door of this ancient workshop, I immediately knew that it would be this one! I was seduced by volumes, the parquet floor and its location in the heart of Paris. The structure was already there but we have recreated the kitchen that I designed by my own (Perene’s furniture) and we intentionally placed it at the center of the apartment. Because at home we don’t laugh with this subject: it’s my real passion and the kitchen in always in the center of everything! We have also created a bathroom and I decided to bring my bath from England (Victoria & Albert).
My paintings and wallpapers are also connected to my origins. Everything comes from Farrow and Ball. I’m a real fan of theirs.
For decoration as for fashion I stay classic, I like cosy interiors, neutral tones and warm atmospheres. That is also why we created an open space between the living room, kitchen and dining room where we find ourselves perfectly even when we are plentiful, what often happens!
I love doing manual things, I realized that it had a therapeutic effect on me!
For example I sew pillows covers when I don’t buy them at Monde Sauvage, a boutique that I love. I find my tissues near home, at Tissu Market (this is a real advantage of living in Sentier’s area) and I sew them with a help of my sewing machine. I only know how to make right angles! I also buy furniture that I paint afterwards (chest of drawers, food safe…). Anything that is manual relaxes me.
I don’t really hang things on the walls. My favorite piece is the tree made on a gold leaf who was painted by Roland Deleu, my father’s friend. And this is actually a tree that’s still in our house in Saint Remy. That’s my little detail from Alpilles in Paris!
At home, there is always a lighted scented candle. I discovered & Other Stories candles that I find really good at quality-price level. I also like metal cups that can be rechargeable from Rose et Marius.
On my coffee table there is always either a drink (!) or French/English magazines. I love the press: Vogue UK, House&Garden UK, French Vanity Fair or Porter. In my bookshelf there are many novels. I am passionate about literature and my only coffee table books are about decoration.
If I had to choose the only moment at home, it would be a Saturday morning. I read, I relax, I drink coffee and take a bath!
