AT WORK WITH... CHRISTOPHE VEROT, FOUNDER OF ROBINSON LES BAINS
A WAKING UP TIME
I wake up at 6.30 a.m. to prepare my breakfast. I cook a « Yummy » and I drink a Yogi tea with lemon and ginger.
After my stretching, I do one hour of sport. I have a shower and I meditate during 10 minutes.
I ride my bike to work. And on the evenings I return at 8.30 P.M. I put an alarm or I wouldn’t stop working, ever!
MY RESUME
I’ve always been attracted by creation, even if I studied business I used to take evening lessons at the Beaux-Arts.
At the age of 16 I visit the Hermès museum, then I decided that I would work for the big brand. I wrote them a cover letter, did an internship and continue with several job related to product and communication.
Then I worked in New York for 3 years and when I came back I decided to do some consulting. Employment wasn’t for me anymore!
ROBINSON LES BAINS
I founded Robinson les Bains while working as a consultant, ten years ago.
At that time, I was practicing water polo. I was in swimming suit fourth times a week. And I realised that there were not so much interesting products for men. There were all badly cut.
So I decided to pay a particular attention to the cuts: we propose various style (starting from the mini-pants to the long board, passing by the short), different print (all design by myself), and second-skin lining (very comfortable to wear).
From the first collection it was a success we sold in NYC, Moscow, at Colette or at the Bon Marché. I also opened a boutique Robinson in the Marais.
MY ADVICE TO GO FOR IT
It’s primordial that you follow your instinct; that you don’t think too much. But the essential is to be well supported. My father uses to say that some skills are vital to start: technique, management and business, it’s necessary to have at least two of them when you are alone.
AN ADVANTAGE
My difference, I feed it. It makes all my strength.
SACRIFICES
My lack of time, I’d like to have long trip, seclude (as when I was young).
But the sacrifices have been bigger for my relatives.
I think that being an entrepreneur made me loose some carefreeness and spontaneity.
IF I COULD START AGAIN
I would change certain things. I would find a partner, someone that completes my skills, and start somewhere else, not in France.
And I wish I could have started younger: at the age of 25 not 37.
MY BIGGEST PROUD
That some people like my product, take pleasure to wear them, even though I didn’t study clothes, style or design.
FROM MY MISTAKES I HAVE LEARNT…
… that I should always follow my instinct. That was often when I didn’t that I failed.
MY MANTRA
Always remember where you came from, so you can keep your head on your shoulders.
CONNECTED 24H A DAY?
Yes and addicted!
CHILD I WHISH I WOULD...
Have a job that enables me to travel, I used to dream of big trips.
NEXT STEPS
Find a president to take my place at the head of the company and focus on the creative part. Launch an underwear collection and swimming suit for children.
And almost escape in Minorca once a month.
